WinZip® makes it easy to create Zip files that aresplit into smaller pieces of a size that you specify. There are several reasonswhy you might want to do this, such as:
- To overcome e-mail size limits. Some e-mail systems limit the size ofattachments; if you want to e-mail a large Zip file that exceeds your limit, youcan split it into smaller parts and e-mail them separately.
- As an alternative to spanned Zip files when youwant to make multiple copies of the disk set.
- As an alternative to spanned Zip files when you want to make the diskcontents as a separate step from making the disks themselves.
- To assist with large downloads. Some users may have difficulty downloadingvery large Zip files from web sites, FTP sites, etc. You can use the split Zipfeature to break large files into smaller pieces that can be downloadedseparately.
Open the Zip file. Open the Settings tab. Winzip online store. Click the Split dropdown box and select the appropriate size for each of the parts of the split Zip file. If you choose Custom Size in the Split dropdown list, the Custom Size (MB) field will become active and allow you to enter in a custom size specified in megabytes. Open WinZip, in the classic interface. Click on New to create a new Zip file. Create it and press ok. Now click on the Add tab and select the file you want to split. GSplit is a free and handy file splitter application for your computer. With the help of this freeware you can split big files e.g. Document, large text, log, archive, image, backup, video, music, multimedia, disk images, zip archives, self extracting archives and many more into different small files.
To split a Zip file into smaller pieces:
- Open or create the Zip file.
- Choose Split from the Actions menu.
- Specify the name to be used for the split Zip file. The name must bedifferent from the name of the open Zip file.
- Specify the size to be used for the individual parts. You can choose fromcommon sizes using the Part size drop-down list or you can specify yourown size. To specify your own size, choose 'Other size' in thedrop-down list and type the desired size in the Other size field. Youcan specify the size in bytes, kilobytes (KB), or megabytes (MB); indicate whichyou're using by clicking the appropriate radio button. The minimum size allowedis 65,536 bytes (64KB).
- Click OK to create the split Zip file.

- Each of the segments of the split Zip file will have a different extension.WinZip creates files with names like Data.Z01, Data.Z02, and so on, except forthe very last segment of the new Zip file. The last segment will always havethe .zip extension (e.g., Data.zip).
- To open the split Zip file, open the file with the .zip extension. Don'ttry to open any of the files with the numbered extensions; WinZip won'trecognize them as Zip files.
- Once the split Zip file has been opened, you can work with it much as youwould work with a regular Zip file, except you can't add any new files or removeexisting files. Some operations such as creating self-extracting Zip files andediting comments are also disabled for split Zip files.
- The sizes listed as '1.2MB,' '1.44MB,' and'2.88MB' are approximate. The segments of the split Zip file aresized appropriately to fit on media of the specified size. You cannot, however,use decimal points when specifying sizes in the Other size field.
- The split Zip file format is an extension of the Zip 2.0 specification.Therefore, some Zip utility programs may not be able to open split Zip files.Please see Split Zip file compatibilityinformation for more details.

Unzip Split Zip Files
Free 3d full movies online. Enable this feature to limit the maximum size of any ZIP file created. When a ZIP file is larger than the size you specify here it will be split into multiple parts. Each part will be renamed to have a number on the end of the filename. For example, if your compressed ZIP name is 'Backup Job 1.zip' and it gets split into 2 parts, you would end up with 'Backup Job 1.zip.001' and 'Backup Job 1.zip.002'. In the event you need to restore from this split ZIP file, you must first re-combine the split parts.

This feature is especially useful if you are using the remote backup feature by e-mail. Many e-mail providers have a limit on the maximum size of an attachment they will accept.

When backing up to a CD or DVD and the size of your backup exceeds the size of a single disc, Safe Data Backup will span multiple discs. In this case, the split preferences specified in this dialog will be ignored. Safe Data Backup will automatically determine the best size to perform the split, based on the size of your backup media.
